St Kilda
When it comes to livability in Melbourne, St Kilda ranks highly. Located 6km south-east of Melbourne’s CBD, it boasts a popular beach and Esplanade. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, pubs and good nightlife. Green spaces are also within easy reach.
Brighton
It ranks as one of Melbourne’s most expensive suburbs for a reason. Brighton is located on the beach, 11km south-east of Melbourne’s CBD. Eltham

The city is easily accessed by train, while there are all kinds of local sporting clubs and excellent schools in this suburb, which boasts a strong sense of community.
Caroline Springs
Located 21km west of Melbourne’s CBD, Caroline Springs is known for its family-friendly environment with parks, playgrounds and community centres. It is a more modern suburb with a vibrant town centre. Better affordability than some other Melbourne suburbs also makes Caroline Springs a winner for first-time homebuyers and young families.
Cranbourne
One of the more affordable options for families in the south-east is Cranbourne, which is located 43 km from Melbourne’s CBD. But don’t let that put you off. Cranbourne has a 363 hectare Royal Botanic Gardens, which includes wetlands, woodlands, walking tracks and picnic facilities. There are also plenty of family-oriented amenities around Cranbourne.
Ringwood
A growing, vibrant community, Ringwood is located 25 km east of Melbourne’s CBD. The area is known for top schools, easy access to shopping centres and entertainment options and good parks and dining. It is also more affordable than many inner-city and bayside suburbs, while still being well connected with a train line linking it to the city.
