Hewett
A newer suburb on the northern outskirts of Adelaide, Hewett has been ranked as one of the top spots in Adelaide to raise a family. It blends rural serenity with convenient access to amenities like schools, hospitals, shops and public transport. There are lots of parks in what is a family-friendly environment, while it is also one of Adelaide’s more affordable areas to buy a house.
Walkerville
An inner-city suburb just 4 km north-east of Adelaide’s CBD, this area is popular with families because of its good schools, parks, amenities and prime location. It is one of Adelaide’s more expensive suburbs for housing, but there are some beautiful homes with plenty of character.
Burnside
Located just 7 km east of Adelaide, this area offers urban convenience while having a peaceful atmosphere with tree-lined streets and spacious residential areas. Burnside is well known for having excellent public and private schools, delightful walking trails, good shopping and dining and a family-friendly atmosphere.
North Adelaide
An inner-city suburb with unique character, North Adelaide has some heritage charm while being close to all the modern conveniences of the city. It is a great spot for foodie’s, with award-winning restaurants and trendy cafes at your doorstep. It is also a central spot for entertainment and events, with Adelaide Oval and the Adelaide Festival Centre within easy reach.
Norwood
Another inner-city suburb just east of the CBD, this area is a little more relaxed while still having city convenience. Norwood is known for having ‘The Parade’, a vibrant precinct packed with shops, restaurants, bars and trendy cafes. There are plenty of green spaces nearby, while connectivity through trams and buses provide easy access all around Adelaide.
Thebarton
Just 3km to the west of Adelaide’s CBD, this is another popular area for young professionals. Everything the city has to offer is just a short walk, tram ride or bus trip away. Thebarton was formerly a more industrial area, but is developing a fun new vibe with many cafes, restaurants and shops popping up.
Glenelg
A famed beachside suburb, Glenelg is located just 9km from Adelaide’s CBD but offers a more relaxed lifestyle with coastal living. It has a stunning white-sand beach which is great for swimming, sunbaking and water sports. The main strip has plenty of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops and for anything else the city is just a 20-minute tram ride away. Two golf courses are also nearby.
Brighton
Another beachside suburb which is popular among retirees, Brighton is south of Glenelg but still within easy reach of Adelaide’s CBD. It has a little more of a relaxed feel than Glenelg, but still has some great shopping, cafes and restaurants – on top of a very nice beach.
