Why you should consider moving to Brisbane

Queensland is known as the ‘Sunshine State’ and its capital of Brisbane offers plenty of warm and sunny weather – plus much more.

Brisbane ranked as the 10th most liveable city in the world in 2021 and is firing up to put on a show when it hosts the Summer Olympic Games in 2032.

Australia’s third-most populous city behind Sydney and Melbourne, Brisbane is a diverse city which still has a very Australian culture and is a great place to base yourself out of if you want to explore all that the wider state of Queensland has to offer.

Here are just some of the reasons you should consider moving to Brisbane.

1. The weather

The weather is one of the key drawcards for moving to Brisbane, especially for those from the colder southern states like Victoria.

Brisbane enjoys a humid subtropical climate, with hot and wet summers and relatively mild and dry winters.

The average daily high temperatures during the winter months are a very comfortable 22 to 24 degrees.

Compare that to Melbourne, which has average daily highs of 13 to 15 degrees between June and August.

Brisbane also delivers an impressive average of 283 days of sunshine each year.

2. Cheaper housing

Housing in Brisbane is considerably more affordable than Sydney and Melbourne, which makes it a little easier to live the Australian dream.

In the December 2022 quarter, the median house price in Sydney was a staggering $1.

41 million, while Melbourne came in at $975,000.

In Brisbane, the median house price that quarter was just $740,000.

3. The great outdoors

Queensland is regularly associated with beaches and Brisbane and its surrounds have plenty of them.

Suttons Beach is one of the most popular around Brisbane, while Cylinder Beach and Main Beach on nearby North Stradbroke Island are also great spots.

About an hour’s drive north of Brisbane, you’ll find the Sunshine Coast and the picturesque Noosa Heads.

About an hour’s drive south of Brisbane, you’ll find the Gold Coast and the lovely Burleigh Heads.

Hop on a plane and you can be in Cairns in a little over 2 hours, ready to explore the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef.

If you love the sun, sand and sea – Brisbane is a great place to be.

4. Culture, arts, sport and entertainment

There is always plenty happening in and around the vibrant city of Brisbane, which has enough festivals and events across the year to rival Melbourne.

If you love your sport, there are two AFL teams in South East Queensland in the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns.

There are also two NRL teams nearby, with the Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans.

Brisbane’s Gabba hosts Test Match cricket each year as well as being the home of the Brisbane Heat Big Bash League side, while the 2032 Summer Olympic Games are sure to get the city buzzing.

Just south of Brisbane, the Gold Coast is the theme park capital of Australia and also boasts other major attractions like the world-famous Australia Zoo.
