Local Removalists Who Know Brisbane

Brisbane is the only Australian capital where your move might involve carrying furniture up the steep front stairs of a 100-year-old Queenslander, threading a truck down a hill suburb with no front-yard parking, and beating a 3pm storm front. And all in the same afternoon. Whatever shape your move takes, Fragile Removals & Storage handles the work so you don’t have to.

We’ve been doing removals in Brisbane for more than 20 years, with our own depots, our own trucks and our own in-house crews. No subcontractors. No agency labour. The same team handles packing, loading, transport, delivery and set-up from start to finish. This counts when strangers are walking through your home carrying everything you own.

As AFRA-accredited movers in Brisbane, we meet strict national industry standards and are audited regularly to confirm we’re meeting them. We also know the city in practical terms. We know how to manoeuvre a three-seater couch up a Queenslander front stair without scuffing the timber. And how to plan a Bardon-to-Bulimba move around the Story Bridge at school pickup. And crucially, we know how to keep a furniture truck cool on a 35-degree January morning. That practical experience is often the difference between a job that runs on schedule and one that doesn’t.

Why Choose Fragile Removals for Your Brisbane Move?

Brisbane has grown faster than other Australian capitals over the past decade, and the moving market has grown with it. Anyone arriving from Sydney or Melbourne tends to discover two things fast. First, the city is more spread out than it looks on a map, and secondly, the houses are built differently. A lot of our clients in older suburbs live in a Queenslander, a federation cottage or a post-war timber home. And none of these are particularly forgiving when it comes to furniture geometry.

We’ve worked through every kind of Brisbane property across two decades. From elevated timber homes in Paddington and Red Hill, to townhouses in Newstead, to family homes in Kenmore and Chapel Hill, to bayside properties in Wynnum and Manly. Our approach is the same every time: protect what we’re carrying, communicate clearly, and leave the new place ready to live in.

Brisbane sees more interstate arrivals than any other Australian capital right now, which means a lot of first-time Brisbane moves come through our books. People relocating from Sydney or Melbourne for a slower pace, more space or warmer winters. We also do plenty of repeat moves, with families shifting from a unit in West End to a Queenslander in Bardon, then again to a bigger place with a yard in Bulimba a few years later.

Our 4.9 out of 5 rating on Google Reviews reflects both groups. Reviewers consistently mention communication, punctuality and the care our crews take with belongings. Particularly with the older homes, narrow doorways and stair-heavy access that come with the territory in older Brisbane suburbs. Many also note that the final invoice matched the quote, with nothing tacked on for stairs, fuel or steep driveways.

What Our Brisbane Removalists Can Do for You

Our Brisbane team covers every type of local removal, from a small studio shift to a multi-level office relocation. Every job is completed by our own in-house staff using our own trucks and equipment.

A lot of our Brisbane work is residential. We’re regular house movers in Brisbane for every type of property. Queenslanders on stumps in Paddington and Bardon; federation cottages in Red Hill and Wilston; modern townhouses in Newstead and Hamilton; larger family homes in Kenmore and Chapel Hill; and post-war timber houses across the inner south. Queenslanders bring their own challenges. They often have steep front stairs, narrow verandas, and original hoop pine floors that need protecting from heavy furniture. Our crews wrap furniture, lay floor runners, and handle the awkward angles that come with century-old architecture.

Brisbane’s apartment stock has grown fast, particularly in the CBD, Newstead, South Brisbane, Hamilton and Toowong. We move through these buildings often. Most require lift bookings, some restrict move times to weekdays, and a few need a certificate of currency on file before move day. The paperwork side is generally lighter than what you’d deal with in Sydney, but we still confirm everything with the building manager before your move date so there are no hold-ups on arrival.

Sometimes you don’t need a full house move, you just want help shifting a piano, a couch, a heavy wardrobe or a few oversized items. Our furniture removalists in Brisbane bring trolleys, blankets, straps and the right-sized truck for what’s moving. We also bring practical experience with Brisbane’s older homes, where doorways were sometimes built narrower than modern furniture assumes. Queenslander front doors and internal doors can be barely wide enough for a contemporary three-seater couch. We can dismantle and reassemble pieces that won’t make it through in one go.

Brisbane CBD office moves usually happen after hours or over weekends to avoid disrupting trading hours and to fit inside building dock-access windows. Our office removalists in Brisbane handle every part of a commercial relocation. From labelling and inventorying every item, through to transporting IT and sensitive documents with care, and coordinating freight-lift access at both ends. We also handle offices in the lighter-touch precincts around Fortitude Valley, Newstead, Bowen Hills and South Brisbane, where building requirements are usually more flexible.

Brisbane’s subtropical climate adds a wrinkle for high-value items in transit. Humidity and heat can damage artwork, antique timber, leather and electronics if they’re not handled correctly. Our white glove service provides climate-aware transport, custom crating and specialist placement for items where standard handling isn’t enough. We assess each piece beforehand and walk you through how we’ll move it.

Short on time? Our packing crew arrives the day before your move, or the morning of, with professional-grade moving boxes, bubble wrap, tissue paper and custom cartons for fragile items. Every box is labelled by room and contents so unpacking at the other end takes hours rather than weeks. Full unpacking is available too, including breakdown and removal of empty boxes once you’re set up.

TVs mounted, mirrors hung, shelving secured, ceiling-fan blades reattached. Our handyman service covers the smaller jobs that turn a freshly-moved-into house into one you want to spend the evening in. It saves you booking a separate tradie and means more of your set-up is sorted before our crew heads off.

We can arrange disconnection of electricity, gas, internet and water at your old address and reconnection at the new one. One less admin task on a day when there’s already plenty to think about.

How Moving in Brisbane Works With Us

Fragile Ashburton 9

Booking your Brisbane removalists is straightforward. Here’s how a typical move runs from first call to final walk-through.

  • Get a quote.Tell us about your move. The number of rooms, pick-up and drop-off addresses, any access concerns (Queenslander stairs, hill driveways, lift restrictions) and any items that need particular care. We come back with a written quote that includes labour, travel and any extras.
  • Confirm your date. Brisbane’s paperwork side is lighter than most other capitals — the city operates under a single Brisbane City Council area for most of the metro, which simplifies parking permits compared with Sydney’s 33-council patchwork. For strata buildings, we arrange lift bookings and any documentation with your building manager. Your move coordinator handles this and confirms everything before the day.
  • Moving day. Our crew arrives on schedule with blankets, trolleys, wrapping materials and the right-sized truck for your job. During Brisbane’s storm season (roughly November to April), we keep an eye on weather alerts. A normal afternoon thunderstorm doesn’t stop us. We just keep loading under cover if a brief downpour rolls through. If conditions look genuinely unsafe, we’ll talk to you ahead of time about adjusting timing.
  • Set-up and sign-off. We place furniture where you want it, reassemble anything we took apart, and do a final walk-through with you. If anything needs adjusting on the spot, we sort it before we leave.

The time a Brisbane move takes depends on how much furniture is moving, how the access works at both ends, and how far apart the two properties sit. Brisbane has two specific time-extenders that don’t apply as strongly in flatter cities. The city’s topography (steep hill suburbs in the inner west and north add carrying time) and Queenslander stairs (which add load time at both ends of any older-home move).

As a general guide, two movers can usually load around 8 cubic metres per hour and unload around 12 cubic metres per hour. With good access, these averages give you a rough idea of loading and unloading times.

These are estimates only. Things that can stretch a Brisbane job out include: hill suburbs where the truck can’t park close to the door, narrow inner-city streets, and bridge-crossing traffic during peak times. Particularly the Story Bridge and Sir Leo Hielscher (Gateway) crossings.

You’ll also need to allow for travel time between the pickup and delivery locations.

Can I Speed Up My Move?

Yes. For larger moves, particularly anything over 30 cubic metres, we often recommend using three movers. we often recommend a three-mover crew rather than two. A third pair of hands reduces both loading and unloading time and usually works out more efficient overall.

Brisbane Removals – Pricing and Quotes

The price of a local move in Brisbane comes down to the usual variables. Like home size, distance between addresses, access at both properties, and whether you need packing or storage. Brisbane has the advantage of fewer toll roads than Sydney and generally lighter traffic than Melbourne, which makes quotes here more predictable. But Queenslander stairs, hill suburbs and steep driveways can still add time, and we factor that into the quote upfront rather than mentioning it on the invoice.

We don’t publish a flat hourly rate because no two moves in Brisbane are quite the same. Our quotes spell out labour, travel time and any extras you’ve asked for, so the number you see before the move is the number you see on the invoice.

Brisbane customers regularly tell us our quotes came in lower than other ones they received. We don’t add fees for fuel levies, stairs or steep driveways (a particular Brisbane pain point with hill suburbs), and we don’t pad quotes with services you didn’t ask for.

We’re upfront about our pricing, so you don’t get a surprise on your invoice.

Frequently Asked Questions About Removalists in Brisbane

Yes. A large part of our Brisbane work involves Queenslanders, post-war timber homes and other elevated properties with stairs at both ends of the move. Our crews are trained to navigate steep stairs and narrow verandas safely, including with heavy items like pianos, fridges and bedroom furniture. We’ll talk through the staircase angles, doorway widths and any tight access during the quote so there are no surprises on the day.

Brisbane’s storm season runs roughly November to April, and afternoon thunderstorms are a normal part of summer here. Our crews use protective wrapping, waterproof covers and enclosed trucks to keep belongings dry, and we lay floor runners at both properties. A typical 30-minute downpour doesn’t stop us. We keep working under cover or pause briefly if needed. If a storm front genuinely makes the day unsafe, we’ll talk with you about adjusting the start time.

Yes. These routes are within our regular service area, even though they involve longer travel than a typical inner-Brisbane move. We move regularly between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast (Maroochydore, Noosa, Caloundra) and between Brisbane and the Gold Coast (Burleigh, Robina, Surfers Paradise). Get a quote for your specific route.

For most Brisbane moves, no. Brisbane City Council covers most of Greater Brisbane under a single authority, which means most addresses don’t need a separate parking permit for a moving truck. For some inner-city streets with limited parking (particularly around the CBD, Spring Hill, Fortitude Valley and Paddington), a temporary permit may make the job easier. We’ll let you know during the quote whether your address is one of those streets and help you sort it.
